When I first began blogging I used Delicious for bookmarking. Then I received two invitations. One was to join  Mento (Beta) and the other was to join Twine (Beta).

I’m currently finding that I prefer Mento to the other bookmarking sites. However, I’m interested in hearing some feedback from readers with regard to how many bookmarking services they have tried, which one they are currently using, and why that is.

Delicious

Delicious is a Social Bookmarking service, which means you can save all your bookmarks online, share them with other people, and see what other people are bookmarking. It also means that we can show you the most popular bookmarks being saved right now across many areas of interest. In addition, our search and tagging tools help you keep track of your entire bookmark collection and find tasty new bookmarks from people like you.

Delicious uses tags. Tags are simply words you use to describe a bookmark. Unlike folders, you make up tags when you need them and you can use as many as you like. This means, for example, that all of the bookmarks you tag with funny and video will automatically be placed in the “funny” collection and the “video” collection. Since tags work the same way for everyone, you can also check out other people’s  “funny” or “video” bookmarks. You can even combine tags to see bookmarks with funny and video.

If your friends use Delicious, you can exchange bookmarks with them via our Inbox feature. If you’re totally into what they’re bookmarking (or just curious) you can add them to your Network too and watch their stream of new bookmarks flow past as they save them.

Mento

Mento provides a package of services for saving links so that you’ll find them again.  Mento is for sharing links with friends:  Smarter than email overload, more permanent than IM, and always just one click away.

Mento is a button for your browser and a place for saving your shared links. Send links to any email address, Facebook friends and Twitter contacts, and use groups and tags for exchanging links with more people. Mento works best with Firefox and certainly supports Safari and Internet Explorer, too. Find friends and extend Mento by adding services you already use. Mento works with Facebook,  FriendFeed,  Tumblr,  Twitter,  del.icio.us,  Ma.gnolia, and more services are being added. You can automatically publish your links with the services you already use so that even more friends will see and interact with them.

Mento tells you when friends clicked on your links and gave you feedback and only you can see the clicks on your links; and only your friends can see when you clicked theirs. That means: No one can see that you clicked a link except for your friend who posted it.

You can add screenshots to the links you’re sharing and also share videos and images from YouTube, Flickr and many other sites. Adding screenshots on Mento works with Firefox on Windows or Mac.

Twine

A new way to collect content and connect with people who share your interests. Use Twine to track, find, and share what interests you. Twine ties it all together by topic, so you can have it in one place. To get started, find a twine of your interest through search or explore.

Twine provides:  interaction, organization, connection and recommendations based on user created tagging (twines).
